Many asiatic spam.
Deep clean and strong captchas needed.
Sorry about that. Last time our captcha was too weak and we changed to the one of Google. That worked fine for several months now. And now this Chinese attack ...
We stopped new registrations and cleaned the mess up.
We need more protection than a typical captcha. We are in the process of discussing this.
@horst_s
Thanks for your effort. It was impossible to use the forum for a while.
Perhaps this could be solved by having a moderator review a member's first post. If the moderator decides the post is malicious in nature, he will reject it and ban the member. If the post is not malicious, he/she will accept it and now the user is free to post whatever they want. the only downside is that the member will not have any publicly viewable posts until the moderator approves it; a small price to pay in my opinion.
@kroman It was easier than your suggestion.
Spammer typically try to flood a forum to become visible. And we now get a message, when too many posts come in. We then are able to delete them with just one mouse click. For now - it works.
@horst_s
It appears that you might be mistaken!
You have put so much time and care into producing a great resource for whisky lovers...it is a shame that every couple of weeks, we get slammed with spammers.
Again, I recommend that someone be authorized to moderate a user's FIRST POST. I will be more than happy to do that if you want, just PM me.
@kroman @horst_s
It is to much spammer right now. It is almost impossible to see new posts.
@bedlamborn
I agree, let one of the regulars do the vetting, although we would have preferred to do vattings
the time limited between posts doesn't work, it just prevents regular users from putting up legitimate posts.
@hwchoy
I wish I had the might of banning when I see all of these spam postings here.
@bedlamborn I was absent some time. We worked hard lately to make our spam detection better. Please keep on reporting so that we can get better.
@horst_s
Thanks! Now it is much better and one can see the posts.
